Are we the lost generation?
I am a student at a brands communication school, and we were recently told to do an animation production with music from only south african artists. I dived into it all enthusiastic and eager only to find that none of the south african music went well with my animation. Why is it that I could not find a single song from such a diverse industry? I'll tell you why, because all the music I ever listen to is american. All my class mates were stuck on the same issue as I was. It was ridiculous, everytime I surfed the net all songs seemed to go well with my project(except south african songs ofcourse. Now I ask you, does this fixation we have with all things american deem us the lost generation?

Budget for 2010 not cutting it
I read the Peoples Guide, Budget for 2010. In this report it was states that 12,2 billion rands more will be used to extend the Child Support Grant up to the child's 18th birthday. That is all good and well but in my opinion that money could have been better spent at helping our children. As it is the amount of support grant each child receives stands at R240 a month so our government decided to increase it by R10 making it a ridiculous R250 as from April 2010. No child can survive on such a small amount each month. My question to this is why was this money not spent on increasing these peanuts they call support grant instead of using it to try pacify us in this patronising way . It is true that some people take advantage of this service but there are people who really rely on it. More money should be spent on empowering women to take the initiative to use birth control so no more children have to depend on grant.
There is also the War Veterans Grant aid . These are the people that risked their lives for our country and for our government, their grant stands at R1030 and will go up to R1100. Is this what they deserve for their trouble? What gets to me the most is that no one seems to mention them . They are also very quiet about it , you never see them toyi toying about their injustices.
I ,as a tax payer, am very sensitive about where our money goes and I am sure that other taxpayers feel the same way. I think that every taxpayer should know that the reality is that the government does not have a detailed action plan ,all they have are our problems. It will take quiet a while to satisfy each and every one of us but surely they can do better than this.
